The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts

A museum of world arts with one of the largest collections in Russia
The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts is a museum complex housing one of the biggest collections of world arts in Russia. Today, it comprises about 700,000 works of art belonging to very different historic epochs, from Ancient Egypt and Greece to the early 21st century. The exhibition includes one of the world's most unique and well-known collections of French arts of the 19th–20th centuries.

Tour 'Renaissance Man: Portrait Sculpture of the 15th Century'
The tour illustrates the distinguishing elements of the portrait sculpture of the Renaissance era. What was the impact of Renaissance humanism on the artwork of that period? How did Roman portraiture influence the 15th-century artists? Apart from the facial features, the visitors will view the character of each model depicted in various portraits from the museum's collection. What were some other similarities? The tour is led by Maria Medvedeva, a lecturer and art historian.
Virtual tour "Jacob Jordaens. The Satyr and the Peasant"
The tour will explain the changes made by the painter when working on the painting and the techniques that were used to emphasise different characters of the work. You will learn about Jordaens' graphics and view his work that preceded his series depicting Flemish proverbs — Sketch of a Maidservant Writing on a Tavern Board. The tour is led by lecturer and art historian Maria Leonova.

Virtual tour "The Fine World of Claude Lorrain"
The viewers will find themselves in the perfect world of Lorrain's landscapes and learn about his techniques. The painter was born in 1600 in the Lorraine region after which he was dubbed later. Most of his works are focused on the light. The visitors will get a chance to see it for themselves on the paintings Battle on a Bridge and Coast View with the Abduction of Europa which form a series. The tour is led by lecturer and art historian Maria Leonova.

Virtual tour "Heaven on Earth. Byzantine Icons from Palaiologan Renaissance"
The tour tells a story of one of the finest periods in Byzantine art focusing on the divine in its obscurity. How was the superiority of the spiritual over the corporeal depicted? In what way did the memory of the antique art reflect in the Renaissance style? The tour is led by lecturer and art historian Maria Medvedeva.

Virtual tour "From the Middle Ages to the Renaissance: Madonna in Proto-Renaissance painting"
The tour depicts the transformation of Madonna's character in various works of the Proto-Renaissance era which saw a transition from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. The two works of the period are studied: Coppo di Marcovaldo's Madonna and Child and Francesco d'Antonio da Ancona's Madonna and Child. Christ and Saints. The tour is led by lecturer and art historian Maria Medvedeva.

Three Artists Sculpturing One Character: an Online Guided Tour
During this guided tour you will learn about the way the image of the Biblical King David has evolved through the history of fine arts: from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. You will see how three different sculptors (Donatello, Verrocchio, and Michelangelo) have transformed his image in their art. This tour is guided by Maria Timina, lecturer and fine art expert.

Brunelleschi vs. Ghiberti: the Dawn of Renaissance
During this tour you will learn about opposition of the two famous Renaissance sculptors Lorenzo Ghiberti and Filippo Brunelleschi who took part in an artistic contest to create the northern gate of the main Baptistery at the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Flower. The tour guide will tell you what Italy was like at that time, and why this era is called the "Renaissance" and when it began. This tour is guided by Maria Timina, lecturer and fine art expert.

Virtual tour "Bacchanalia. Two Masterpieces in time"
The visitors will be introduced to the Uvarov sarcophagus, named after its owner Count Sergey Semionovich Uvarov, who was the Honourable Member and the president of the Russian Academy of Science. The characters depicted on it and the ideas reflected will be discussed. The second part of the tour is dedicated to Peter Paul Rubens' "Bacchanalia" that was inspired by the sarcophagus. The visitors will travel through space and time to the world of ancient Greek and Roman deities, satyrs, bacchantes, etc. The tour is led by a lecturer and art historian Elizaveta Makeyeva.

Virtual tour "For the pleasure of now and knowledge of then..."
An online tour through the museum galleries displaying the history and culture of ancient civilizations. The visitors will experience the museum's collection in its full richness – from plaster casts of ancient architectural landmarks in the Greek Courtyard to genuine artefacts of Assyrian and ancient Egyptian civilizations that go back centuries. The tour is led by a lecturer and art historian Elizaveta Makeyeva.
